October 5 - Words & Wisdom
October 5 at 2 p.m. @ NOTL Public Library
Do you remember when the community library was the place where you would go to borrow books? Those days are over. Today the NOTL Public Library is a vital and evolving meeting place and a resource for the community. Our library today is so much more than the sum of its printed word.
- Are you up to date on how you can actively participate and contribute to the life and success of our community library?
- Do you have subject matter expertise, time, special interests you'd like to share with other library patrons?
- Are you eager to promote our community library truly a gem with your friends and neighbors and with local business?
Cathy Simpson, Chief Librarian will walk us through the growth of our library and she will point out the numerous and often unknown possibilities and resources available to community members.
In the second half of the session we will be introduced to the labyrinth, its history and symbolic importance. We will conclude our session with a guided silent walk through our very own newly created Community Labyrinth.
Labyrinth walks have been promoted to support focus, relaxation, a meditative stance or the simple enjoyment of a guided walk. Come prepared to be energized, informed and inspired!
October 18 Meeting
The Architecture of Nostalgia & Hope: Imitation & Innovation
Do you know your Georgian from your Regency, a Queen Anne from a Victorian, Greek Revival characteristics from the Neo Revivalist details adorning NOTL's contemporary grand mansions & town homes? Breathe easy! Brian Marshall, who has researched the topic extensively, is going to demystify, clarify & elucidate the remarkable details of historical form & function that make NOTL such a fascinating place to visit & live.
Come celebrate our built heritage in a building of distinction, and partake of the tea & crumpet autumnal equivalent that would have been enjoyed by early settlers, prepared with local produce by a dedicated local chef.
Tickets ($20) will be available at our first meeting, on September 20, and at the Sept. 29 C & C morning.
The event will take place on October 18 at the Historical Museum.
Community Awareness - This is a chance for Newcomers to learn about other clubs, organizations and activities in NOTL. Come out and learn about other ways to get involved in the community.
