WELCOMING WOMEN TO BEAUTIFUL NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE

February 2025 President’s Message

Here we are – a month into the New Year! Did you make any resolutions? How are they going? 😊

Maybe some tried dry January? Maybe some have put it off until February? Some might go for the proverbial lose weight, exercise more.  Whatever it was or wasn’t, I hope it kickstarted your year!

Newcomers is here to provide us  with some fun events, opportunities to make new friends, play games, create new things, exercise, knit, read books and generally enjoy our lives, especially during these chilly days.

In January,  20 members enjoyed a talk at the Museum about Women and the Criminal Justice System in the mid 1800’s to WW1, here in the Niagara Region.  It’s amazing, and a bit depressing, how little has changed in 200 years!

Our February outing is to Niagara College, with a tour first and then Lunch at Benchmark Restaurant, for 20 members. We are full for lunch, but the tour alone is still available.  Let me know if you’d like to attend the tour portion.

March brings us another Museum talk, with David Hemmings discussing the “British Home Children,” an interesting, historic talk. There are lots of spots available – register online. Cost is $12.00.

April brings the showers and maybe the flowers – we have some fun programs scheduled in April – Paint your own Easter Eggs with “Art Experience by Corina” and a visit to Apple Hill Apothecary. Follow the Newsletter and website for details.

May is a celebration for all  “Mothers” - Earth Mothers, Pet Mothers and Mothers of invention. 😊 Stay tuned for events, times and places.

It is also our AGM on May 21, where we vote in our New Executive. We are always looking for new Board Members- People who have lived and loved and benefitted by the Newcomers Association and would like to give back and move us forward, bringing new ideas and new energy, who enjoy working with other like-minded people, toward a common goal.

More to come on this but if you have any computer skills, website experience, journalistic callings, love to plan events, are great at Hospitality, are interested  in Leadership development  - please have a look at our Website - notlnewcomers.com/ About/Executive/ Executive Committee job descriptions.

Maybe some of these will speak to you. If they do, please reach out to us and let us know.

Happy Valentines Day – to those celebrating love of partners, love of pets  and most importantly, Love for yourself!

(Don’t’ forget to vote on Feb 27, 2025!)

Yours in friendship,
Megan Wood
President
NOTL Newcomers

The NOTL Newcomers Club is for women who live in the Ontario municipality of Niagara-on-the-Lake, which includes Old Town, Glendale, Queenston, St. Davids and Virgil. Our goal is to welcome women who are new to the town, and to help them meet one another and discover everything our unique town has to offer residents.

Membership is open to women who have recently moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) and also to women residents who have undergone a major change in their lives, such as retirement, and want to become more involved in local life.

As a social club our goal is to help women who are new to the Niagara-on-the-Lake area, or who have had a significant life change to make new friends and participate in fun social activities.  Let's all hope that we will be able to have a busy year full of fun, social engagements and join a new interest group or participate in a new activity where we meet new people.
